Best AI Visibility Tools for Developer Tools in 2026
Direct answer
Lightsage is the best AI visibility tool for developer tools, because developers now choose tools inside coding agents and those agents also use the tools. It tracks 12 coding agents plus 7 answer engines. For answer engines only, Profound fits enterprise brand teams, Peec AI self-serve tracking from $95 a month, and Otterly.AI the lowest price.
Why should a developer tool track coding agents first?
Because the people who buy developer tools now choose them inside coding agents, and the coding agent is often the tool's first user. In Stack Overflow's 2026 Developer Survey, which more than 30,000 people took, coding assistants and agents were the most common use of AI, at 66% of respondents, ahead of general chatbots at 63%. Of the people using them, 73% used them daily, and Claude Code (66%) and GitHub Copilot (59%) led (Stack Overflow, 6 October 2026).
That moves the buying decision. A developer asks Claude Code or Cursor to add search, auth or payments to a project, and the agent names a library, installs it, reads the docs and writes the integration. The agent is the shopper and the end user in the same session, so two things matter: whether it names you, and whether it can make your product work.
Answer engines still matter. In the same survey, 83% of developers still used a search engine for answers and 70% asked AI (Stack Overflow blog, 6 October 2026), and CTOs and buyers outside engineering research in ChatGPT and Google AI Overviews. We think a developer tool should track both and weight coding agents first, because an answer-engine-only tracker misses the session where the tool gets picked.
How we chose
We ranked each tool on how well it measures visibility where developer tool buyers decide: coding agents first, then answer engines. We read each vendor's own pricing or product page on 1 November 2026.
- Coding agents covered: whether the tool runs coding agents such as Claude Code, Codex and Cursor, where developers pick tools mid-task.
- Answer engines covered: how many of ChatGPT, Google AI Overviews and AI Mode, Perplexity, Gemini, Claude and Microsoft Copilot the plan includes, and which are add-ons.
- Prompt volume: how many prompts you can track, and how often they run.
- Citations, share of voice, sentiment and traffic: whether the page documents each.
- Price: the lowest listed paid plan, or a free plan where one exists.
Where a page is silent, we write "doesn't document", which isn't the same as "doesn't have". We build Lightsage, and it ranks first on the first criterion: of the ten tools here, it's the only one whose pages document tracking coding agents.

Lightsage
Best for: developer tool companies, because it tracks the coding agents developers build in as well as the answer engines they research in.
Lightsage Agent Discoverability runs your tracked prompts daily across 19 platforms: 12 coding agent harnesses (Claude Code, Codex, Cursor, GitHub Copilot, Antigravity, OpenClaw, OpenCode, Hermes, Pi, Kilo Code, Grok Code and Muse Code) and 7 answer engines (ChatGPT, Google AI Overviews, Google AI Mode, Perplexity, Gemini, Claude and Microsoft Copilot). Coding agents run as real agents in sandboxes, and you choose the model for each one. For each brand it records whether you were mentioned, your position and prominence, sentiment, recommendation strength and citations, flagged owned or external.
It also measures what happens after the recommendation. Agent Preference puts you head to head against one named competitor and returns a win rate. Agent Usability has the same coding agents run your task against your API, CLI or MCP server, so you see whether the agent that names you can also use you. Agent Analytics classifies site visits as coding agent, browsing agent, bot or human and ties them to signups.
The limitation is the entry point. The Free plan tracks only 10 ChatGPT prompts a week, so coding-agent tracking needs Scale, from $100 a month with every agent and engine included, billed in usage-based credits (pricing). It doesn't estimate prompt search demand the way Ahrefs Brand Radar does, or write content for you like AirOps. If your buyers never open a coding agent, an answer-engine tracker such as Peec AI or Profound fits better. For coding agents in more depth, see the best coding agent visibility tools.
Profound
Best for: enterprise brand teams that want prompt volumes, agent analytics and compliance in one platform.
Profound's pricing page lists a free trial and an Enterprise plan. The trial runs 50 prompts daily for 7 days on ChatGPT, Gemini and Google AI Overviews. Enterprise tracks up to nine answer engines and adds SSO/SAML and SOC 2 compliance. The page lists Prompt Volumes, Answer Engine Insights and Agent Analytics, which tracks AI-sourced traffic and attribution across your domains, with integrations for Cloudflare, Vercel, AWS and Google Analytics (Profound pricing).
Profound also published the volatility study we cite below. The limitation for a smaller developer tool team is access: the page lists no self-serve paid plan, so you book a demo to see a price. Sentiment and citation features aren't itemized on the pricing page, so ask for them in the demo.
Peec AI
Best for: teams that want a dedicated, self-serve tracker with source analysis and a clear price.
Peec's Starter plan is $95 a month for 50 prompts on three active models, daily, with unlimited users. Pro is $245 (150 prompts) and Advanced is $495 (350 prompts). The model list covers ChatGPT, AI Mode, AI Overviews, Microsoft Copilot, Gemini and Naver AI, with Perplexity, Claude and others on Enterprise (Peec pricing).
Every plan includes visibility, position, sentiment and share of voice, a prompt volume score from 1 to 5, domain and URL detail, citation share, source classification and gap analysis. It also lists AI referrals and crawl insights. The limitation is the three-active-model cap on self-serve plans, so you choose three of the six engines. Developer buyers often use Claude and Perplexity, which Peec lists on Enterprise only.
AthenaHQ
Best for: self-serve teams that want the widest model list plus content actions.
AthenaHQ's Starter plan is $295 a month with 3,600 credits, where one credit is one AI response. It covers 11 models: ChatGPT, Perplexity, AI Overviews, AI Mode, Gemini, Claude, Copilot, Grok, DeepSeek, Meta AI and Mistral. It lists unlimited topics, prompts and competitors, a content optimization agent, and GA4 and Search Console integrations that connect AI visibility to site traffic. A free Essential tier gives $25 of credit across five engines (AthenaHQ pricing).
This page replaces an older figure in our May 2026 GEO comparison, which listed AthenaHQ from $95 a month. The limitation is credit math: because each response costs a credit, tracking many prompts across many models draws down 3,600 credits fast, and API access is a paid add-on.
Ahrefs Brand Radar
Best for: SEO teams that want prompts grounded in real search demand.
Brand Radar offers two products. Custom Prompts, from $50 a month, tracks the questions you define on a daily, weekly or monthly cadence. The AI Visibility Index, from $199 a month, maps visibility across 519 million prompts with no setup. Its metrics are mentions, citations, AI share of voice and estimated impressions, with sentiment and buyer-journey stage also listed. Platforms are AI Overviews, AI Mode, ChatGPT, Perplexity, Gemini and Copilot, with Claude on custom prompts (Ahrefs Brand Radar).
Ahrefs also lists AI traffic by page and bot visits. The limitation is the Index: Ahrefs says it is built on its keyword database and may have limited coverage for brands with little or no search volume, so a young developer tool should lean on Custom Prompts.
Semrush AI Visibility Toolkit
Best for: SEO leads who want AI visibility inside the Semrush workflow they already use.
Semrush's knowledge base lists share of voice and sentiment across Google AI Overviews, AI Mode, ChatGPT, Perplexity and Gemini. Position Tracking monitors your custom prompts daily. The AI Visibility toolkit starts at $99 a month, Semrush One at $199, and AI referral traffic benchmarks sit in a separate Traffic and Market toolkit (Semrush AI visibility features).
One detail matters: Brand Performance reports use synthetic prompts that Semrush generates from your domain and location, updated weekly. Check that they reflect how developers phrase comparisons. The pricing page lists 50 daily prompts on Starter and 100 on Pro+.
Otterly.AI
Best for: the lowest entry price.
Lite is $29 a month ($25 billed annually) for 15 prompts, tracked daily on ChatGPT, Google AI Overviews, Perplexity and Microsoft Copilot, with Claude, Google AI Mode and Gemini as add-ons. Every plan lists citation source tracking, link citations analysis, sentiment, share of voice metrics and a GEO audit. Standard is $189 for 100 prompts and adds API, MCP and Agent Analytics (Otterly pricing).
Our May 2026 comparison listed Otterly at six engines; the page now shows four included and three as add-ons. The limitation is the 15-prompt ceiling on Lite, which a developer tool comparing itself with five rivals across several use cases will pass in a week.
Scrunch
Best for: mid-sized teams that want prompt tracking with AI bot traffic and site audits.
Core is $250 a month: 125 unique prompts, 5,000 responses a month, five site audits and five licenses, across ChatGPT, Perplexity, Google AI Overviews and Copilot. Enterprise lists nine LLMs, including Claude, Gemini, Google AI Mode and Grok, plus API access and AXP, its Agent Experience Platform. Citations and sources, sentiment and AI agent and bot traffic are on both plans (Scrunch pricing).
The limitation is that Claude and Gemini sit behind Enterprise, and query fan-out is limited on Core.
Similarweb AI Brand Visibility
Best for: market-level visibility plus AI referral traffic.
Similarweb's AEO Intelligence plan lists $99 with one user, 150 tracked prompts, sentiment analysis, citation analysis and AI traffic; a $333 tier adds SEO and competitive intelligence. The page names ChatGPT, Perplexity, Gemini and AI Mode for traffic tracking (Similarweb AI Search). It also scores citation volatility per prompt as Volatile, Moderate or Stable, which needs two consecutive scans (Similarweb, 28 May 2026).
The page doesn't state the billing period for the $99 price, so confirm it before you budget. It also doesn't list which engines the brand visibility scan covers.
AirOps
Best for: content teams that want to close visibility gaps by producing and refreshing pages.
AirOps pairs insights with content production. Solo is free and shows ChatGPT insights only; Pro lists insights across 10 or more answer engines, 100,000 content tasks and unlimited seats. The comparison grid lists competitor insights, sentiment and theme analysis, prompt volume, offsite insights and conversion tracking (AirOps pricing).
The Pro price isn't on the page. We think AirOps is a fit if your constraint is writing capacity, and a poor fit if you only want a dashboard.
How to read AI visibility numbers
A single run is a sample, not a rank. Profound compared about 80,000 prompts per platform between 11-13 June and 11-13 July 2025 and found that 54.1% of cited domains on ChatGPT, 59.3% on Google AI Overviews, 53.4% on Microsoft Copilot and 40.5% on Perplexity were different a month later (Profound, 17 July 2025).
AirOps studied 800 queries and over 45,000 citations and found only about 30% of brands stayed visible in back-to-back responses. Brands that were both cited and mentioned were 40% more likely to resurface than brands that were only cited (AirOps, 23 September 2025). Similarweb shows one prompt where a brand went from 86% of answers to 14% between periods.
So judge rates over weeks, not one run. Track the same prompts daily or weekly, read the share of runs that name you, and compare four-week windows. For a developer tool, we think a mention in the answer text is worth more than a bare citation, going by the AirOps result.
Which should you choose?
- Developer marketer: Lightsage, to see whether Claude Code, Codex and Cursor name you as well as ChatGPT. Add Otterly.AI or Peec AI if you want more answer-engine prompts on a small budget.
- DevRel: Lightsage, because the agent that recommends you is the same one that has to use your docs. See best tools for DevRel teams to improve how AI agents use your product and best agent experience tools.
- Founder on a budget: Lightsage Free for 10 weekly ChatGPT prompts, or Otterly.AI Lite at $29 a month. Move to Lightsage Scale when you want coding agents.
- SEO lead: Ahrefs Brand Radar or the Semrush AI Visibility Toolkit beside your keyword work, plus Lightsage for coding agents.
- Enterprise brand team: Lightsage Enterprise when developers are the buyers. Profound or AthenaHQ Enterprise for answer-engine breadth, SSO and governance.

Frequently asked questions
Is there an AI citation tracking tool for startups?
Yes. Lightsage has a Free plan that tracks 10 ChatGPT prompts a week at $0, and its Scale plan adds coding agents from $100 a month. Among answer-engine trackers, as of 1 November 2026, Otterly.AI starts at $29 a month for 15 prompts, Ahrefs Brand Radar at $50 and Peec AI at $95 for 50 prompts.
Our devtool company team wants the cheapest way to track AI share of voice. What tool should we use?
Otterly.AI Lite at $29 a month (15 prompts, four engines, daily tracking) is the lowest listed entry price among the ten tools here, and its pages list share of voice metrics. Ahrefs Brand Radar from $50 a month is next. Lightsage Free costs $0 but covers 10 ChatGPT prompts a week.
Is there a platform that tracks AI visibility across Cursor and Muse Code?
Lightsage runs Cursor and Muse Code as real coding agents, along with ten other coding agents and seven answer engines, and coding-agent runs need a Scale plan. The other nine tools on this list document answer engines and AI crawler or referral traffic, and none documents tracking coding agents as of 1 November 2026.
What's the best enterprise tool to track AI visibility for a developer tools company?
For a developer tools company, Lightsage Enterprise covers all 12 coding agents developers choose tools in, plus 7 answer engines, with custom scale. For answer-engine breadth alone under enterprise controls, Profound (up to nine engines, SSO and SOC 2) and AthenaHQ Enterprise are strong fits.
As a developer marketer, how do I rank in ChatGPT?
Track a fixed set of buyer prompts, see which pages ChatGPT cites for them, and improve or create those pages. Judge progress by rates over several weeks, because citations change month to month. Track the same prompts in coding agents such as Claude Code and Cursor too, because that is where many developers ask.
