Weekly Visibility Review

A systematic approach to monitoring and improving your AI visibility each week. Build a consistent practice that compounds into lasting competitive advantage.

30 min/weekALG Teams

Why weekly reviews matter

AI visibility is a moving target. The models update, competitors publish new content, and your own site changes. Teams that review their visibility weekly catch problems early, spot opportunities faster, and build the muscle memory to respond quickly.

This playbook walks you through a 30-minute weekly review that covers the essentials: score changes, opportunities, competitor movements, and stakeholder reporting. Follow it consistently and you will develop an intuition for what moves the needle.

Before you start

Prerequisites

Make sure you have these in place before your first weekly review.

Active Lightsage account

You need access to the Lightsage dashboard with Visibility tracking enabled for your domain.

Prompts configured

Ensure you have at least 10-20 prompts set up that represent your target queries and use cases.

Competitor brands added

Add 3-5 competitor brands to track in your Visibility Score settings for meaningful comparisons.

Previous week baseline

For your first review, you will establish the baseline. After that, compare against prior weeks.

1

Check Recommendation Score changes from last week

5 min

Start by reviewing your overall Recommendation Score trend to understand your current standing and momentum.

Navigate to the Lightsage dashboard and open the Visibility Overview page. Your Recommendation Score appears prominently at the top, showing your current score and the change from last week. A green indicator means improvement; red means decline. Pay attention to both the absolute number and the direction of change.

Scroll down to the Visibility Trend chart to see how your score has changed over time. Look for patterns: Are you on a steady upward trajectory, or do you see volatility? If you notice a sudden drop, click on that data point to see which prompts contributed to the decline. This often reveals specific areas where competitors have gained ground or where your content has become less relevant.

Take a screenshot or note down the key metrics: overall score, week-over-week change, and any significant outliers. You will reference these numbers when creating your stakeholder report at the end of this review.

2

Review top opportunities in queue

10 min

The Opportunities tab surfaces prompts where you have the highest potential to improve visibility with targeted content updates.

Open the Opportunities page from the main navigation. Lightsage automatically prioritizes opportunities based on potential impact, current gap versus competitors, and estimated effort. Focus on the top 10 opportunities for this review cycle. Each opportunity shows the prompt, your current citation status, which competitors are being cited, and what pages of theirs are getting referenced.

For each high-priority opportunity, click through to see the full analysis. The detail view shows exactly what content the AI models are citing from competitors, and what topics or angles your content is missing. Look for patterns: Are you losing to competitors on technical depth? Comparison content? Pricing transparency? Use case specificity? These patterns inform your content strategy.

Mark 3-5 opportunities as your focus for the coming week. Use the built-in tagging system to label them with priority levels or assign them to specific team members. This creates accountability and makes it easy to track progress in your next weekly review.

3

Analyze competitor position changes

8 min

Understanding competitor movements helps you anticipate threats and identify gaps in their coverage you can exploit.

Navigate to the Visibility Score section and select the week-over-week comparison view. This shows how each competitor in your tracking set has moved relative to your position. Pay special attention to any competitor that has gained more than 5% share in a single week, as this often indicates a content push or product update that is resonating with AI models.

Click into any competitor that has gained significant ground. The competitor detail view shows which specific prompts they have improved on and what pages are now being cited. Compare these pages to your own content. Often, competitors gain ground by publishing comprehensive comparison pages, detailed pricing breakdowns, or in-depth technical guides that AI models find more authoritative.

Document the key competitor moves in your notes. For each significant shift, note: which competitor, which prompts they improved on, and what content appears to have driven the change. This competitive intelligence is valuable for your content team and for stakeholder updates.

4

Prioritize content updates for next week

5 min

Convert your opportunity analysis and competitive insights into a concrete action plan for your content team.

Based on your opportunity review and competitive analysis, create a prioritized list of content updates for the coming week. The best framework is to balance quick wins (small updates to existing pages that could improve citations) with strategic investments (new content pieces targeting high-value prompts where you currently have no presence).

For each content update, define the specific action required. Examples: Add a comparison table to your pricing page. Create a new how-to guide for a common use case. Update your API documentation with more examples. Be specific enough that a content creator or technical writer can execute without ambiguity. Link each action back to the specific opportunity or competitive gap it addresses.

Export or share this prioritized list with your content team. In Lightsage, you can generate a content brief for each opportunity that includes the target prompt, current competitive landscape, and recommended content elements. These briefs accelerate execution and ensure alignment between your visibility goals and content output.

5

Export weekly report for stakeholders

2 min

Create a clear summary of this week's visibility performance to share with leadership and cross-functional partners.

Navigate to the Reports section in Lightsage and select the Weekly Summary report template. This automatically pulls in your key metrics: Recommendation Score, week-over-week change, top opportunities actioned, and competitive position changes. Review the auto-generated summary and add any manual annotations for context that the data alone does not capture.

Customize the report audience. For executive stakeholders, emphasize the headline metrics and business impact: visibility trend, competitive position, and connection to pipeline or traffic metrics if you have attribution set up. For content and marketing teams, include more detail on specific opportunities and recommended actions.

Export the report as PDF or share the live dashboard link. If you share a live link, stakeholders can drill into the data themselves. For executive updates, a PDF with the key takeaways often works better. Schedule this export to happen automatically every Friday so your weekly report lands without manual effort.

Tips and best practices

Advice from teams running successful ALG programs.

Set a recurring calendar block

Block 30 minutes every Monday or Friday for your visibility review. Consistency is more important than perfection; a regular cadence builds institutional knowledge.

Involve your content team early

Share opportunities directly with content creators rather than just marketing leadership. The faster insights reach people who can act on them, the faster you improve.

Track actions to outcomes

When you make content updates based on opportunities, tag them in Lightsage. This creates a feedback loop showing which types of updates actually improve visibility.

Focus on trends, not single data points

Week-to-week variance is normal. Look for 3-4 week trends before drawing conclusions or making major strategy shifts.

Benchmark against your category, not just competitors

A declining score in a category where everyone is declining means something different than declining while competitors rise.

Use the review to build organizational buy-in

Regular stakeholder reports create visibility for your ALG program. Consistent communication builds support for content investments.
